Xtreme Fighting Championships puts on its twenty second event in February, coincidentally on the 22 of the month. The promotion returns to Charlotte for the first time since July of 2012, when they put on XFC 19: Charlotte Showdown in front of a sold out crowd at the Grady Cole Center. As is standard for the XFC shows, two rising regional talents will face off in a local “dream” match up. Jeremy Severn will fittingly be “crossing the line” as he travels up from South Carolina to fight Nick Smith, who will be representing North Carolina.

Smith is currently 2-0, with a chance to improve to 3-0 before the February bout. His amateur record is lengthy at 8-2-1. Smith has previously fought at Middleweight and Welterweight, and will be a big Lightweight if his cut goes accordingly. He has the power to knock opponents to the mat, but his record also shows his ability to submit opponents. Smith makes his XFC debut following two fights with local promotion, FightLab.

Severn will be the slight underdog at 1-0, not to mention unfavored, as he is fighting in Smith’s backyard. Fighting out of Charleston, South Carolina, Smith is an aggressive striker. He utilizes the clinch to throw knees and he is constantly looking for the hit that will put his opponent to sleep. He will be a tough challenge for Smith in the stand up, but will need to be weary of getting into Smith’s guard.

The bout will be a classic in more ways than one. Smith will fight in front of friends and family and will be the better grappler in this bout. Severn represents the southern sister state and offers the fan friendly heavy striking that makes a crowd go crazy. Two undefeated pros enter the cage on February 22, but one will be handed their first loss before the night is done. Who do you have?
